I can still remember crying in her arms, asking if she would live forever. I remember seeing tears in her eyes, but I don't remember what she said. Years later, my greatest childhood fear came true. My mom died of cancer when I was 20. She was only in her early 40s. My sister and I had just grown up, and she was finally at the point in her life where she was going to start doing all the things she'd dreamed about—traveling, seeing Europe, experiencing more of the world. She never got the chance. For a long time, I told myself I would do those things for her. I did make it to Europe, I left my hometown, and I've been fortunate to have a life filled with love and opportunity. But somewhere along the way, I also realized how easy it is to keep putting life off until "someday." Suddenly years have passed, and you find yourself wondering why you waited so long. This song isn't really about regret. It's about remembering that the life we're waiting to live is happening right now. Whether it's taking the trip, making the change, calling someone you love, or simply choosing a different path, there's no perfect moment. There's no time like today.
