I've been thinking about how none of us travel through life alone. We move forward carrying our loves, our losses, our hopes, our disappointments. Sometimes they trail behind us like luggage. Sometimes they become so intertwined with us that we can no longer tell where we end and they begin. In this piece, the heart becomes a companion, a burden, a vessel, and a clock. Time is always present, nudging, pulling, measuring, reminding. We spend our lives moving through it, while our feelings quietly shape the journey. The desert felt like the perfect landscape for this idea. Wide open. Silent. Endless. A place where there is nothing to distract us from what we carry. Perhaps we aren't just walking through time. Perhaps time is walking with us. I made this instrumental piece separately experimenting with Suno. This was a very detailed and intricate prompt I made to create the changes in the song. My dad was a jazz musician and I grew up around a lot of jazz. I always loved the piano and songs that take a different turn. I decided to add a vocal underneath part of this later so it was really tricky trying to get it to match the music. I also added some light scatting which fit so beautifully. When you work with Suno you can take bits and pieces of songs and try to change them and work with them until you get what you want. I have learned how to force phrasing when it changes the phrasing in the 2nd verse or to force a melody but changing the lyrics slightly. Or to take a chorus from one version and add it to another. I am very particular about the little things. I always know when a song is done. It's a feeling. It's really the most amazing app to work with.
