Hello, my friends. Before anything else, thank you. I read every comment on the last film. I do it the same way each time. Late in the evening, one cup of coffee, no rush. No matter where we live, we somehow keep meeting in the same place. Somewhere between music, memory, and imagination. Now, about the clothes. Of everything I have designed for these films, this collection took me the longest by far. There were nights when I was certain a coat was finished, and then I would open it again and change the curve of one sleeve, or soften a fabric, or move a single color until it finally sat right. I wanted these pieces to be unusual, but never silly. Strange, and still elegant enough that you could picture yourself walking down your own street in one. I fell in love with them. So much that I have taken one of the coats to a tailor. It is being made right now, in real thread, in the real world. I am a little nervous about it and completely delighted. I wish I could reach through the screen and hand one to every person reading this. Not as a costume. As a reminder that you are allowed to wear the colors and shapes that make you feel most like yourself. But then I thought about my aunt, and I changed my mind. Because I think most of you already own one. ⸻ This summer I helped my aunt pack up her apartment. Near the back of her closet, still zipped inside its garment bag, was a coat I had never seen. Deep blue. Beautiful buttons. The tag was still on it. I asked how long she had owned it. She said, "Oh, years. I was saving it." I asked what she was saving it for. She stood there a moment. Then she laughed, really laughed, and said, "I honestly can't remember." She wore it that afternoon. To the grocery store. She bought bread and a bag of oranges in a coat she had been saving for twenty years, and she looked absolutely wonderful. That was the first song. On the walk back we passed an old bank on the corner. Heavy stone, tall windows, and a small brass plaque beside the door with one word on it. HISTORIC. We polish the plaque. We restore the windows. We say the building has character. Then we turn to the people who have stood just as long, through the very same hundred winters, and we find another word for them entirely. Perhaps people deserve the same kindness we give the stone. That became the second song. The third arrived over dinner. My aunt told me that for forty years she woke before her alarm ever rang. And now, most mornings, she lets it ring first, and then takes her time.
