Lindsey Clancy and the surprisingly simple solution to helping moms with postpartum depression 2 dk Abandoned in the woods, half-buried in dirt and carrying decades of wear, this 1950 Caterpillar D4-7U looks closer to scrap than a working bulldozer. As we see, diesel has flooded the crankcase, the original engine is beyond saving, the steering clutches are frozen, the radiator is corroded, and the rear Hyster winch has filled with water. Moving it was already a major operation, so rebuilding it will mean stripping the tractor to its cast housings, opening every mechanical system and finding out which parts can still survive. Pacific Northwest Hillbilly takes on the machine piece by piece, rebuilding the transmission, steering clutches, final drives, hydraulic controls, radiator and winch before fitting a replacement D315 diesel engine. Bearings, seals, brake linings, gears and linkages all have to work together with the precision of the original design, while later modifications must be understood and integrated rather than copied without question. Fresh Caterpillar yellow may bring back the D4’s unmistakable appearance, but the real transformation happens inside the housings, where decades of rust and improvised repairs give way to dependable mechanical control. After two years of work, the goal is clear: return this crawler to the ground with the traction, blade control and pulling power that made the D4 such a capable machine in the first place. The final test will not come from the paint or the first start. It will come when the tracks bite, the steering responds, the blade enters the soil and a bulldozer built in 1950 begins working again.
