202612 నిమి
Check out this new gameplay demo preview from the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Racer, developed by Fuse Games (formed by Criterion and Burnout veterans) in partnership with Lucasfilm Games. This work-in-progress footage has been provided by Secret Mode and edited by us as part of our Summer Game Fest 2026 exclusive coverage.
This new Star Wars title marks the franchise's highly anticipated return to the racing genre, blending the visceral DNA of the Burnout series with a surprisingly deep, post-war narrative. Preserving the beloved legacy of Star Wars Episode I: Racer, this game delivers a brand new direction that expands the scale into a narrative-driven, sports-drama campaign with a brilliant roguelite structure. If you love the high-speed thrill of classic 90s arcade drift racers like Screamer and deep vehicle customization, you will find your perfect sweet spot here. Star Wars Galactic Racer is the ultimate love letter to racing fans, seamlessly blending the chaotic crashes of Burnout and Motorstorm, the tactical progression of modern roguelites, and the cinematic storytelling of the Star Wars Jedi series.
📝 SUMMARY
Star Wars Galactic Racer, developed by Burnout creators, brings sci-fi racing back to the franchise. Set in the post-war New Republic Era, the game blends chaotic arcade crashes with a deep, narrative-driven roguelite campaign.
✒️ DESCRIPTION
Star Wars Galactic Racer follows a mysterious masked driver named Shade during the New Republic Era, just after the events of Return of the Jedi. With the war over, former Rebel and Imperial pilots and mechanics channel their leftover military expertise and surplus gear into the high-speed, underground world of hot rod racing. Entering the newly formed Galactic League, created by a dreamer and old pod mechanic named Darius Pax, Shade must navigate a fiercely competitive galaxy to dethrone the egotistical reigning champion, Kestar Bool. Featuring witty writing and a deep focus on localized sports drama inspired by films like Rush and Ford v Ferrari, the narrative brings an exciting look at a galaxy picking up the pieces, evoking the nostalgic racing spirit of Darth Vader's origin story in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, where iconic figures like Sebulba play surprisingly significant narrative roles.
💥 GAMEPLAY FEATURES AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
- The Spiritual Successor to Burnout: Developed by racing game veterans, the game captures the pure, visceral essence of the Burnout and Need for Speed series. From the blistering sense of speed to the voyeuristic, slow-motion camera cuts during spectacular vehicle crashes where metallic junk flies off into walls, the gameplay delivers intense arcade satisfaction.
- Deep Roguelite Campaign Structure: A clever roguelite loop drives the single player mode, injecting fresh excitement into every race. Players use League Tokens to choose branching paths on an event grid to chase specific rewards and stat boosts. However, crashing out too often means permanent elimination from the tournament series, forcing players to balance risk versus reward when choosing courses.
- Scrappy Customization: Emphasizing George Lucas' original love for post-WW2 hot rod culture, players build and modify junker vehicles using metallic scraps. The game boasts trillions of potential part combinations, allowing players to create incredible, synergistic builds as they progress through a campaign run.
- Diverse Galactic Vehicle Classes: The game features multiple distinctly handling vehicle types that mirror real-world counterparts. Skim Speeders handle like low-flying planes, Speeder Bikes mimic motorcycles, Landspeeders behave like rugged rally cars, and Podracers return as the high-speed, fragile equivalents of Formula 1 cars.
- 3D Track Design and Verticality: Unshackled from the constraint of tires touching tarmac, the tracks offer massive drops and steep climbs. Races tear through iconic and original Star Wars locations, such as ripping up the side of a volcano through a tropical rainforest, though the sheer speed can occasionally make sight-reading upcoming turns a split-second challenge.
- Arcade Mode and Legacy Podracing: Outside of the narrative campaign, a traditional Arcade Mode allows for casual racing and time trials. Here, players can jump straight into frantic, blisteringly fast Podracing on iconic tracks like Mos Espa, piloting classic characters such as Sebulba, Gasgano, Ebe E. Endocott, and Ben Quadinaros.
