So when I went to write the song for the video for some reason I got the idea of using the old trope about a famous writer and the young writer that falls in love with him. And when the famous writer dies, he asks the younger writer to burn his unfinished works. The young writer keeps the works and publishes them. It's been written about and lived over and over. Not sure what made me think of that but it seemed to fit. The moon does not generate its own light; it reflects the sun. To the young protégé, the older writer seemed like a brilliant, self-sustaining sun. But in reality, he was the moon, channeling and reflecting brilliance, while harboring his own "brightest secret" and "lie." He was human, aging, and flawed, but he successfully projected an image of absolute brilliance to his young lover. Heavy Old Moon [Verse 1] He was a maker of light who borrowed the sun as his own He folded his brightest secret in words that were his alone He let the lie slip easy like a coin he pulled from his sleeve And you were the only witness who watched him start to leave [Pre-Chorus] You kept his loose ending locked in your chest Sure he was steady enough for the rest You thought he was fixed to a permanent star Never once worried he'd wander too far [Chorus] Oh the heavy old moon won't give up its beat He gave you his brightest lines then turned on his feet Now the tide pulls away to wherever it's bound But I still hear him saying "keep some light around" [Verse 2] It happens in pieces this losing of a friend You couldn't see the dimming before it reached the end But stand there quiet enough and hear what still remains The warmth he left behind him moving through your days [Pre-Chorus] So carry his loose ending still in your chest Honor the promise he left for the rest The world's still short on people who shine Even when the author has finished his line [Chorus] Oh the heavy old moon won't give up its beat He gave you his brightest lines then turned on his feet Now the tide pulls away to wherever it's bound But I still hear him saying "keep some light around" #ai #aiart #surreal #music
