When a storm stranded their ship, sailors heard a voice calling "Posa, posa" — "put me down." They brought the icon ashore, the storm calmed, and the town grew around the spot. That 13th-century icon still hangs above the altar of Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, visited at 54:24, under its famous dome of yellow, green, and blue majolica tiles.
