An early morning walk along the coastal Nagisa Lava Trail on Sakurajima, an active volcanic island in Kagoshima, Japan. The trail follows the water's edge, where lava the lava stopped from the 1914 Taisho eruption. It is also home to many cats, I saw at least 10 when I passed through before my trip to Yakushima. Unfortunately this morning they were still asleep, but we can see their feeding bowls, evidence that they have many local friends. There was also a naval submarine in the water between the island and the city of Kagoshima on the mainland. The volcano on in the middle of the island is still active has small eruptions throughout the day, with more dramatic eruptions from time to time.
