The Hidden Engineering Behind the Falkirk Wheel 16 min In June 2025, I completed a 50 mile solo hike across the Ak-Suu Traverse in the Tian Shan near Karakol, Kyrgyzstan over 4 days in early summer during the tail end of snowmelt. The route moved through glacier valleys, high passes, meadows, forests, and seasonal yurt camps, with river crossings, lingering snow at elevation, and rapidly changing weather throughout the trip. It was my first time in Central Asia and the experience made me want to re-visit sometime again soon.
