CHILDREN OF THE EARTH - THE RIVER CLAIMING - Directed By Davide Bianca (AI Short)

Excited to share the third installment in my original micro-series Children of the Earth. This chapter has definitely been the most ambitious and challenging of the three, both technically and narratively. I wanted to push the execution as far as I possibly could, experimenting with new approaches to cinematography, motion, and atmosphere.
Chronologically, this piece is actually a prequel, taking place on the morning of Awakening Day, before the events of Roadkill and The Warning. It sets the stage for everything that follows — the quiet before the fracture.
This project remains deeply personal to me, and building this world one chapter at a time has been a journey of discovery in itself.
More soon, and as always, thank you to everyone following along.
Here below a bit of the lore:
Moonlight Springs, Ohio, a Midwestern town wrapped in farmland, dense forest, and the slow curve of the Greywater River. The town takes its name from a natural wonder hidden in a grove outside the limits, the Moonlight Springs. Rich with ancient minerals, their rocky floor is tinted emerald green. When the moon is full, the light refracts through the water, making it shimmer with a ghostly, bioluminescent glow.
Old folklore, much of it adapted from Native American legends, warns that the springs are more than beautiful, they are a mouth, a conduit, a window into the body of the Earth itself. Elders tell of Children of the Earth, spirits and forms the land sends to restore balance when the world has been taken too far from its natural order.
On a heavy, humid fall morning, the world changes. The woods go silent. The Greywater River takes on a faint green haze and rotten smell.
Then they come.
From the forest. From the river. From the old churchyard and the long-forgotten battlefield. The reanimated dead, humans and animals long buried or lost, their bodies entombed and remade by the Earth. Skin darkened and hardened like tree bark. Roots woven through their limbs, holding them together. Leaves sprouting from their scalps like hair. Every step they take comes with that constant rustling and the occasional sharp crack of wood breaking, layered over the faint, insect-like clicking from deep in their throats.
