Are Beavers Actually Good at Dams? 20 min Walking in the rain through Seki-juku, a historic post town on the Edo Period Tokaido walking highway from Kyoto to Tokyo in Mie, Japan. The forecast called for rain, and I thought it might be nice to hear the sounds of rain on the roofs of the traditional buildings and hitting quiet streets with the glow of lamps in dusk light. I wasn't sure how much light there would be in such a small town, and it got dark quickly. Seki-Juku is one of 53 post towns on the Tokaido route, the Eastern Sea Road. Perhaps you've heard of the Nakasendo, a similar walking highway that goes through the mountains between Kyoto and Tokyo. The Tokaido was the more popular route during the Edo Period, though now the Nakasendo is more well known. Seki-Juku is very well preserved, but gets far fewer visitors than the Nakasendo Post Towns.
