Sunrise walk at the summit of Mount Tsurugi and hike down a forested mountain trail in Shikoku, Japan. I spent the night at a mountain hut just below the summit and woke up before dawn to catch the sunrise. Mt. Tsurugi is a sacred mountain, and also quiet popular despite the fact that it isn't that easy to get to the trailhead. There were a number of hikers making their way to the summit in the early morning hours, but the boardwalk in the direction of Mt Maruishi was deserted. I hadn't planned to hike Maruishi, but it looked so tempting I was drawn down the trail for a bit before getting a few views from the air as the sunrise illuminated the mountain slope. From there it was back to the summit and then back down the trail to Tsurugi shrine at the base of the trail.
