Are all of these AI safety campaigns part of a big coordinated psyop?
Apparently some people are actually being paid to push anti-AI messaging, but I’m not sure if that’s the case in these recent instances.
I think it’s more likely that these Anthropic and OpenAI whistleblowers are usually from the alignment and safety sector, so their entire job is to study potential worst-case scenarios. Spending every day inside that world probably changes how you see the risks, but it also means they may be noticing dangers the rest of us aren’t.
I’m inclined to believe their warnings are genuine, but I don’t think panic is the answer.
The AI arms race probably isn’t slowing down anytime soon. So maybe the smartest move is putting more brainpower into alignment and not just shareholder value.
What do you think: genuine warning or manufactured fear?
